Opportunities With ILG

The kinds of work available through the ILG network.

ILG coordinates language access across a variety of settings and modalities. The opportunities below represent the assignment types we regularly match language professionals to.

On-Site Interpreting

In-person assignments in schools, healthcare settings, community organizations, public agencies, legal environments, and business meetings. Requires strong interpersonal presence and real-time communication skills.

Educational Interpreting

IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, EC meetings, ML programs, and family engagement events. These assignments often benefit from continuity — the same interpreter supporting the same family or student across the school year.

American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting

Classroom coverage, educational meetings, community programs, and institutional interpreting for Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals. Ongoing K-12 classroom coverage is one of our most consistent assignment types.

Events & Conferences

Conferences, community events, public forums, trainings, and multilingual programs. May involve consecutive or simultaneous interpretation and coordination across interpreter teams.

Video Remote Interpreting (VRI)

Interpretation through live video connections. Requires reliable technology, an appropriate work environment, and comfort with remote communication dynamics.

Over-the-Phone Interpreting (OPI)

Shorter conversations, urgent needs, intake calls, and time-sensitive communication. Requires strong active listening and clear vocal delivery.

Translation Services

Rendering written content between languages — educational materials, healthcare communications, administrative documents, legal materials, and community-facing content.

Common Questions

What language professionals typically ask before applying.

What kinds of interpreters and translators does ILG work with?

ILG partners with experienced spoken-language interpreters, qualified ASL interpreters, professional translators, and language access professionals across a wide range of language pairs and settings.

Do I need to be certified to apply?

Certification is preferred and, for some settings and language pairs, required. Qualification for the settings we support — accuracy, professionalism, ethical practice, and relevant experience — is essential.

Do you work with freelance or independent linguists?

Yes. Most of our network works with ILG on an assignment basis. Your availability, language pairs, and service area help us match you to appropriate assignments.

How long does the application and review process take?

Timing varies based on the language pair, the settings you are qualified for, and current needs. We aim to respond to complete applications within a reasonable timeframe and will communicate about next steps once your application has been reviewed.

Do I need to be located near Charlotte to work with ILG?

For on-site assignments, proximity matters. For remote assignments (VRI, OPI, and translation), location is more flexible. Your service area is one of the fields we consider when matching assignments.
